Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump met Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir, at a White House luncheon, calling it an “honour” to host him. Speaking to the media, Trump thanked Field Marshal Asim Munir for his role in de-escalating tensions between Pakistan and India. “He deserves appreciation for helping secure the ceasefire. Both countries are nuclear powers, and dialogue is crucial,” Trump said. The meeting followed heightened hostilities in South Asia and included discussions on a potential U.S.-Pakistan trade agreement. Trump praised the leadership of both nations as “truly remarkable.” The two also discussed the Middle East, particularly the ongoing conflict involving Iran. Trump noted Pakistan’s deep understanding of Iran due to geographical and historical ties. “They probably know Iran better than most,” he said. “Gen. Munir agreed with me.” Sources said the Pakistani Army Chief was expected to urge the U.S. to avoid deepening involvement in Israel’s conflict with Iran and push for a ceasefire. Pakistan has strongly condemned Israeli airstrikes on Iran, calling them a violation of international law.
